What are the major issues the TCNJ Dems will be fighting for this year?

For the Academic Year of 2012-2013, the TCNJ College Democrats will pledge to….

FIGHT FOR AFFORDABLE HIGHER EDUCATION
Over the past five years, college costs have grown nearly forty percent – pricing thousands of students out of the opportunity to attend college. But last fall, the Democratic leadership in Congress enacted the College Cost Reduction Act of 2007. It is the single largest investment in higher education since the GI bill and it comes at no cost to taxpayers. Democrats will continue to make college more affordable by cutting interest rates on student loans and increasing scholarships

FIGHT FOR UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE
In the wealthiest, most powerful nation on earth, no one should have to go without health care. Young people, saddled in debt, often go uninsured – leading to problems when they find they need health care. Today, more than 47 million Americans are uninsured.  Democrats are committed to making sure every single American has access to affordable, effective health care coverage.

FIGHT FOR MARRIAGE EQUALITY
We believe in and are committed to marriage equality for all of New Jersey’s couples. Despite the recent setback in the NJ Legislature, we will keep advocating for this essential civil right.

PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT BY PROMOTING ENERGY INDEPENDENCE
We need to do all that we can to protect our environment for ourselves and for future generations. Students across the country are committed to energy independence. The Democratic Party believes that every American ought to be able to breathe clean air, eat safe food, and drink clean water. Democrats have a long and strong record of protecting our environment and making sure the true costs of our actions are accounted for.

REPAIR AMERICA’S IMAGE ABROAD
The Democratic Party believes that the rest of the world does matter, and that we ought to work hard to promote a positive image of Americans abroad. Democrats have a long and strong record of reaching out to the rest of the world and showing that we not only welcome our membership in the international community, but that we can lead it responsibly.

BUILD A STRONG ECONOMY FOR ALL
The economy has declined since we entered college making it more difficult to get a job when we graduate. The Republican tax cuts for the wealthy certainly do not help out young people just starting off in their careers. The Democratic Party believes that every American who wants a job ought to have one, that government policies can grow our economy in a way that benefits everyone, and that the government can effectively fix harmful skews in the market. Democrats have a long and strong record of strengthening our economy in a way that benefits everyone.
